Kabekona LakeFed by cold springs and three clearwater creeks, Kabekona Lake is one of the cleanest and clearest in the state of Minnesota. On a bright day you can see the lake bottom well beyond the end of our 100 foot dock, but off to the south there are depths that never see sunlight135 feet at one point. Kabekona is about four miles long, a mile wide, 2600 acres. The hills of Paul Bunyan State Forest rise to the west of Kabekona. From the lower end of the lake the Kabekona River winds through trees and marshes where redwing blackbirds nest, down into Oak Lake, navigable with our fishing boats and 8 h.p. motors. If you make the excursion you are likely to see an eagle or two overhead as well as pass close to loons on the lake and turtles sunning themselves along the river bank. From Oak Lake the waterway continues on to Leech Lake through reeds and wild rice beds. ![]() |
Fishing on KabekonaKabekona is well known for its big walleyes and northern pike. The deep waters offer lake trout a good habitat, but though they are often sighted from fish houses in winter, they are elusive... Perch are plentiful, crappies and sunfish are caught by our dock fishermen as well as by the folks with boats and fish locators. Our boats, free with a cabin, are 14 Lunds. We have motors for rent, and a paddle boat, canoe, kayak, life jackets, and boat cushions available without charge. |
